Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda is due to receive a 2026 Nigeria GovTech Public Service Award for digital government and technology-enabled service delivery.

National recognition in Abuja

The award is scheduled to be presented during the fourth Nigeria GovTech Conference and Awards, taking place on 13 and 14 October at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms, which is organising the event with the Office of the Technical Adviser to the President on Economic and Financial Inclusion, said Radda was selected after a comparative assessment of states’ digital-government performance.

The assessment examined public-service delivery, institutional readiness, digital infrastructure, transparency and open government, innovation, and partnerships. Radda is one of six governors named for the 2026 honours, alongside the governors of Zamfara, Cross River, Enugu, Anambra and Benue.

Focus on digital public infrastructure

The recognition centres on Katsina’s efforts to use technology across government administration and public services. The state has promoted the iKatsina Framework, a digital public infrastructure model intended to link resident identity, government records and services across ministries, departments and agencies.

Katsina’s government says the programme is designed to reduce fragmented data systems and help residents access services through a more unified public-sector structure. Earlier this year, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum praised the framework as an approach to interoperability and citizen-focused digital government.

The state has also advanced the SMART Katsina Broadband Masterplan, which seeks to expand fibre connectivity and digital access for government, schools, healthcare providers and businesses.

Skills, schools and enterprise

Radda’s administration has tied its digital agenda to skills development and youth enterprise. The Katsina State Entrepreneurship Development Agency’s Digital Academy says it has trained hundreds of young people, backed digital projects and supported start-ups.

The government has also reported ICT training for civil servants, while smart-school projects are being equipped with digital learning tools, connectivity and technology facilities.

For Black communities across Nigeria, the significance lies beyond an award ceremony. Digital identity systems, reliable broadband and practical technology skills can determine whether young people, small businesses and rural residents can participate fully in a modern economy. But the test for Katsina will be whether these systems produce measurable improvements in access, affordability and the quality of everyday public services.

The conference is themed “Advancing Digital Government: Scaling Digital Public Infrastructure for Effective Governance and Service Delivery”.
