Christopher Brown, the Opposition spokesman on science, technology, data, and digital transformation in Jamaica, is advocating for the immediate implementation of robust cybersecurity legislation. This call for urgent action follows a reported cyber incident involving the National Health Fund (NHF).
The incident involving the NHF has highlighted significant vulnerabilities within the country’s digital infrastructure, underscoring the critical need for a comprehensive Cybersecurity Act. Brown emphasized that this legislation should be introduced this year, rather than adhering to the currently proposed 2027 timeline.
He further stressed that any delays in implementing such legislation would leave Jamaican citizens, public institutions, and the nation’s digital assets increasingly susceptible to growing cyber threats. The urgency for faster action is also underscored by a significant increase in reported cyber incidents in Jamaica, observed between 2022 and 2025.
