Enugu State has taken a significant step toward modernizing its agricultural sector by making heavy farm equipment more accessible to rural farmers. The state government has begun leasing sixty-seven tractors to agricultural producers across the region as part of a broader initiative to promote mechanized farming practices.
The disclosure came from Patrick Ubru, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-industrialisation, during a recent media visit to the Nortra Tractor Assembly Plant. This facility, which the state government established, represents a key infrastructure investment aimed at supporting the agricultural transformation agenda in the southeastern Nigerian state.
The tractor leasing program addresses a critical challenge facing small-scale and medium-scale farmers in the region: the prohibitive cost of purchasing agricultural machinery outright.
