Natalie Neita Garvey, the Shadow Minister of Local Government and Participatory Democracy, has advocated for a “Smart Municipal Jamaica Initiative.” She presented this proposal during her contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

The initiative is designed to digitalise municipal corporations, making them more citizen-centric. Its goals include enabling online applications for permits and licenses, as well as providing real-time tracking of approval statuses, which aims to enhance efficiency and public access to local government services.

This call by the Shadow Minister highlights a push towards modernizing public administration. If implemented, such a program could significantly streamline interactions between citizens and their local authorities, improving transparency and service delivery.
