TAAG Angola Airlines will begin scheduled flights between Luanda and Praia on 12 December, opening a new twice-weekly connection between Angola and Cape Verde.

New link between Angola and Cape Verde

The airline said bookings are now open for the Luanda–Praia route, with departures from Angola’s capital planned for Mondays and Saturdays. Return flights from Praia are scheduled for Tuesdays and Sundays.

The journey is expected to take about four hours each way. TAAG said the service will mainly use Airbus A220-300 aircraft, configured with 137 seats: 12 in Premium Class and 125 in Economy Class.

The launch is a concrete addition to air links within Lusophone Africa, connecting two African countries whose official language is Portuguese but whose travel and commercial ties have often depended on indirect routes.

Luanda hub strategy

TAAG said the Praia service supports its wider plan to develop Luanda as a regional aviation hub. Passengers travelling from Cape Verde will be able to connect through Dr António Agostinho Neto International Airport to TAAG’s domestic Angolan network and to other African and international destinations.

For Black travellers, entrepreneurs and families moving between West Africa, southern Africa and the wider diaspora, more direct regional connections can reduce the time and complexity of journeys that have long relied on European transit points.

The route also adds to TAAG’s network across Portuguese-speaking markets, where it already operates services linked to Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe.

Dakar extension planned

TAAG has described Praia as the first stage of a broader regional project. The airline plans to extend the service to Dakar, Senegal, in 2027, though it said that step remains subject to aviation approvals and completion of operational procedures.

That prospective extension could create a stronger air corridor spanning Angola, Cape Verde and Senegal, three countries positioned in different parts of the continent but connected by trade, tourism, migration and growing interest in intra-African travel.

For now, the immediate development is the opening of sales for the Luanda–Praia service, ahead of its planned 12 December 2026 launch. As with any new route, schedules and aircraft allocations may be adjusted for operational reasons.
